(We were surprised that an ice rink was on level 3 of a shopping mall rather than the basement it ground floor because of the weight – but it is!)

When

Public skating starts at 10.30am daily in 2 hour skating blocks. The ice is cleaned between each session.

The rink closes at 9:30pm on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays; 7:15pm on Wednesdays; 11:30pm on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Cost

Entry is all automated with ticket machines and barriers. Options for skating + boot hire+ socks+ gloves+ skating aide+ helmet. We opted for skating with boot hire $18 adult / $16 child.

Sessions are for 2 hours and extra 30 mins of skating can be purchased at $3.50 Adult / $3 child.

Entry to the viewing area is $4 but there are plenty of cafes on Level 4 with free seating and access to food and beverage.

Skating

Zahra had a great time. There were quite a few groups skating and the abilities suffered vastly but there were assistants on the ice (in yellow tops) to help up the hapless. 2 hours was a good length of session for a tweenager to tire out and not get bored skating on her own. (We slipped off to get coffees!). 15 mins before the end of the session 2 machines in the roof poured out bubbles / fake snow for everyone to enjoy.

There are lots of programs and ‘learn to’ sessions at the rink ranging from skating to curling. It’s worth checking them out if you’re interested- and it’s a fun way to exercise.
