Pre Assignment Trip

From the 5th – 10th June 2018 we arrived in Singapore on our pre assignment trip.

Day 1 – Arrival

.

First impressions were at the airport; the fragrant smell, the cleanliness, the space, the shiny newness of it all. Not a broken floor tile in sight, helpful staff who spoke good English and not a litany of people checking the same forms over and over. Even the immigration office in his smart military style uniform was pleasant and polite. I didn’t get interrogated as to why I was visiting and what I was doing. It so refreshing.

.

We picked up tourist SIM cards and booked a taxi all at the same desk in less than 10 minutes. Perfect instructions on where to find the waiting cab. The cab driver was not familiar with the Hotel we were booked into and tried to drop us off around the corner from the main entrance – we walked and made him drive the bags around. That reminded me of India.

.

Checking in to the hotel took a little longer than normal as the check in clerk could not find our reservation but it was sorted within a few minutes and , after the usual formalities, we were in our fabulous room in no time at all. The extra bed was even made up and ready (three years in India and that has never happened).

.

We dropped off our luggage and headed out for dinner. I was starving due to Jet Airways giving me a plate of fruit for my dairy free in flight meal. We headed out to the only place we knew – TimHoWan – with the help of Google Maps. Our chilli free dinner was delicious.

.

We walked back to the hotel and headed into the luxury of a hot bubble bath. Ahhhhh now that was a treat. A rain shower and a hot bubble bath and plenty of hot water to have both. We all slept well.
